Nearly 300 more young northerners are gaining valuable on-the-job training and experience with the support of the Ontario government.

The province is investing an additional $6.6 million through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) to support co-op placements and internships.

Under the program, eligible Northern Ontario employers receive:

• a wage subsidy of up to 50 per cent, to a maximum of $6.00 per hour to hire post secondary students from Northern Ontario for co-op placements
• up to 50 per cent of a recent Northern Ontario graduate’s salary to a maximum of $27,500 annually for private sector internships
• up to 90 per cent of a recent Northern Ontario graduate’s salary to a maximum of $27,500 annually for public sector internships
The NOHFC’s Youth Internship and Coop Program helps public and private sector employers give students access to work placements and internships that will serve as a springboard to rewarding and successful careers in the North.
