Nails on Highway 64

North Bay OPP is asking Field Township and area residents to assist in helping police with regards to metal nails purposely embedded on Highway 64 between Chrystal Falls and Field, Ontario. The North Bay OPP investigated an identical occurrence over a year ago on Saturday May 14th, 2005.

Police have received information of five (5) separate vehicles including a police cruiser that ran over small nails between 7:00 p.m. Thursday May 18th and 12 noon today (Friday May 19th, 2006).

Last year police found that the nails were purposely planted on the Highway. Police believe that the culprit cut the heads off and sharpened the exposed ends in anticipation that they would enter vehicle tires.

Police patrolled the highway on this date and did not locate more nails. Police are continuing their investigation.
