Best to keep your dogs leashed along the Cranberry Trail in Callander.
The town recently reminded residents to keep their pets leashed. As per by-law 2022-1734, “Owners shall not permit dogs or cats to run at large. Dogs and cats must be on a leash of no longer than 2 meters (6 feet) while on Municipal property.”
This is particularly poignant as the municipality also reminded folks that The Ontario Fur Managers Federation is trapping in the area of Cranberry Trail. “Please be mindful of your surroundings,” the town requested.
Cranberry fans are already aware that the Cranberry Trail is off Pinewood Park Drive. Just before you turn into Callander, you’ll turn onto Cranberry Road, which leads you past Osprey Links Golf Course, and that’s where you’ll find the trailhead.
Each fall, the trail is home to Callander’s Cranberry Day festival.

Recently, signs bearing the logo of the Ontario Fur Manager’s Federation were posted on the north side of Cranberry Trail. A member of the Facebook group “Buster’s Page – Helping North Bay’s Pets Get Home,” posted the image (see above). The signs read, “Caution, legally set lethal traps. Avoid pet tragedy. Stay on Main Trail.”
“Control your pets,” the sign concludes.
So, if you’re walking the dogs along Cranberry Trail, be sure to stick to the trail, and don’t let Fido run about. As the sign says, “Avoid pet tragedy.”
