Nipissing University will welcome local students from grades 7 – 12 with a flair for math to campus on Monday, April 28, for a Math Fair.

The Math Fair takes place in room A246 and is open to the public. Students will be setting up their projects from noon – 2 p.m. Judging takes place from 2:15 – 5 p.m. Public and media are welcome to attend during the judging portion of the event.

Students will display math-related projects, running the gamut from solving problems to examining the various applications for mathematics. Entries are divided into three age-related categories: grades 7/8, grades 9/0, and grades 11/12. Three medals will be awarded in each category. The top overall prize includes a trip to Toronto to visit the Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences.

Organizers invited entries from local school boards including the Near North District School Board, the Nipissing- Parry Sound Catholic District School Board, Conseil scolaire public de district du Nord-Est de l'Ontario, Conseil scolaire Catholique Franco-Nord, and District School Board Ontario Northeast.

The fair is organized by the Nipissing University Mathematics Education, Research, and Information Council (NUMERIC); which is comprised of educators from Nipissing University and the local community who share an interest in promoting the learning and appreciation of mathematics through a variety of sponsored events.
