A long-time member of the Heritage Railway and Carousel Company (HRCC) family Dan Pigeau has passed away.

"He had been the Chief Mechanic of the HRCC for the past 12 plus years, and member of the HRCC family for many years before becoming the Chief Mechanic," says a news release from the group.

“Dan will be missed by all the volunteers of the trains and carousels,” said Rod Johnston, Chairperson of the HRCC.“Dan was quite involved with the construction of the Heritage (Big) Carousel in 2002, and instrumental in getting the Winter Wonderland (Small) Carousel in 2005.

“We have a picture of Dan on an ATV hauling one of the horses up the hill on a trailer by the Heritage Carousel prior to its opening in 2002."

Unfortunately, with the death of Pigeau, the Heritage Railway and Carousel Company is temporarily closed. In order for the trains and carousels to operate, the Chief Mechanic must be licenced as per the Province of Ontario regulations governing Amusement Devices and TSSA regulations for Amusement Rides.

The HRCC is in the process of looking for an individual that is licenced by the TSSA for Amusement Rides so that it can continue to operate.

The Heritage Railway and Carousel Company extends its deepest sympathy and condolences to Dan’s family.
