A Track and Field athlete is turning to fashion as a means to help offset his training costs in hopes of making Canada’s Olympic team in 2020.
Nick Laporte, is training with world-renowned former Canadian sprinter Ben Johnson in hopes of qualifying for the 2020 Olympics in 100m.

Laporte was trying to think of some creative ways to raise money for his training and about four months ago he decided to create his own line of apparel called “Nikfit.”
Laporte had logos created and by the end of this week, locals will be able to purchase his clothing line at Skaters North on Fisher Street in North Bay.
“I figured it would be a better way to raise money than just asking people for sponsorships," said the former minor pro hockey player.
"I know what is popular and have a good idea what would sell and I came up with the logo. Being big into fitness, I was already familiar with what people tend to wear during workouts and what’s popular."
The clothing line will include hats, hoodies and lightweight T-Shirts for both men and women.
Laporte has already started online sales through his Nick Laporte 2020 Olympics Facebook page.
“I’ve had a lot of people say they are going to purchase some items so it is a good start to business,” he said.
Laporte is also working with Ben Johnson this week offering a youth conditioning camp at St. Joseph-Scollard Hall this week.

As for his training, Laporte is just coming off a stress fracture and is starting to resume light training in hopes of competing in late July.
“Everything is back on track to get back to where we need to be and it is going to be a big month and getting my workouts to where they want to be. I am happy with the recovery process,” he said.
