A tiger cub, a Eurasian lynx, a red fox, several birds of prey and other animals will be calling North Bay home next week as part of the North Bay – Mattawa Conservation Authority’s public Wildlife Wonders event. The Canadian Raptor Conservancy and Jungle Cat World have once again partnered with the North Bay – Mattawa Conservation Authority (NBMCA) to offer an educational program aimed to raise awareness of the planet’s diversity and to foster an appreciation of the animals that inhabit the earth.

“The Eurasian lynx is actually endangered in many countries around the world, so it’s a rare opportunity to see one up close,” comments Dale D’Allaire, Naturalist, North Bay – Mattawa Conservation Authority. “We hope to have people walk away with a stronger appreciation of the variety and beauty of the animals that share our earth.”

The general public is invited to attend an evening session held at the Vincent Massey School gym, located at 15 Janey Avenue, on Wednesday, May 7th at 7:00 pm. The Vincent Massey location was selected to accommodate the growing number of attendees each year. Tickets may be available at the door but reservations for the event are recommended. Tickets are $5.00 per adult, $3.50 per child (12 years old and under) and free for children under the age of five. The public may contact the Conservation Authority at 474-5420 for more information or to make a reservation. The event is sponsored by the Foster Wild Environmental Fund.

The North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority’s Natural Classroom is designed to promote environmental awareness among children and adults through a variety of science-based programs which incorporate interaction with the natural environment and hands on learning activities. Programs are delivered year round both at the NBMCA’s Outdoor Education Centre and at conservation areas around the region. Curriculum based resources and school programs are also available.

The North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority was founded in 1972 by the Province of Ontario and its 10 member municipalities. A non-profit organisation, the NBMCA works closely with the public to ensure the environmental health of the region’s watershed. The NBMCA is one of 36 Conservation Authorities who are members of Conservation Ontario.
