LETTER: Four-laned Highway 11 would end carnage up north

All the provincial government wants to do with the north is take the minerals out of the ground, trees out of the bush ... and use it as a playland, says letter writer

One person was killed and several taken to hospital after a massive pileup on Highway 11 earlier this month.

To the editor:

Highway 11 is a four-lane highway going north as far as North Bay. You are so very fortunate to have these roads like this.

Our government is more concerned about a tunnel under Highway 401 to spread across the GTA than it is about four-laning the highways from Sudbury to the Manitoba border where there have been many accidents involving vehicles and big trucks going to the west or coming back east.

Also, look at an area like Lake Tamagami, another area that is not four-lane with heavy transport truck traffic.

Both of the above-mentioned areas that I am speaking about have lots of deaths and crashes. There is more to Ontario than just the GTA.

All the provincial government wants to do with the north is take the minerals out of the ground, and trees out of the bush ... and use it as a playland.

It's about time that the north gets what it deserves: fully four-laned highways, so the carnage can stop.
