Labour council and safety centre present awards

The North Bay and District Labour Council and Worker's Health and Safety Centre, Annual Health and Safety Activist's Awards Dinner was held Monday evening at the Best Western Hotel.
The North Bay and District Labour Council and Worker's Health and Safety Centre, Annual Health and Safety Activist's Awards Dinner was held Monday evening at the Best Western Hotel.

The awards are given each year by the Workers Health and Safety Centre to deserving workers.

The Awards recognize Joint Health and Safety Committee members who have given exemplary service to their members.

Union members who have been nominated by their local unions were recognized and given plaques at the banquet.

Award winners were Sandra Soule of COPE, Keith Allen of CUPE and Jamie Paul of IAM&AW.

An OFL award for Health and Safety was presented to Keith Allen.

Keith Allen (recipient of Canada Post Literacy Award) was presented with an Honorary Life Delegate Card for the North Bay and District Labour Council.

The guest speaker was Tom Parkin, Director of Training Services for the Workers' Health and Safety Centre, which trains and certifies Safety representatives.

"It is important to give credit and say thank you to these workers for their efforts which often goes beyond the call of duty," said Terry O'Connor, President of the Labour Council. "Anthing we can do to reduce deaths, injuries and job-related illnesses is well worth doing."
