Jocko Point/French River looking for help

'We have seen increased in water levels and have approximately 20 homes that will be critical tomorrow morning with the rain and winds on it’s way'

The community of Jocko Point on the North shore of Lake Nipissing on Nipissing First Nation land, is in need of volunteers on Tuesday morning.

Jocko Point officials are asking for volunteers to come out at 9 a.m. to fill sand bags at the Community Centre- Fire Hall in Jocko Point.  

“We have seen increased in water levels and have approximately 20 homes that will be critical tomorrow morning with the rain and winds on it’s way,” said volunteer community organizer Collette McInnes.

Jocko Point officials made the volunteer call at 4 p.m today.   

Meanwhile, the Municipality of French River is also under a state of emergency and has put out a call for volunteers.

"Join us on Tuesday, May 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to help fill sandbags at either Sandbag Filling Station. Let’s work together to help homeowners in protecting their homes," says the municipal website.
