It's one of North Bay's more unusual art exhibits.
#IceFollies2020 kicked off at the waterfront this weekend on Marathon Beach. The artwork will remain until Feb 29.
Hannah Smith and her friend Allison Roberts are part of a local arts collective called Studio Nude Beach which comes up with different projects in North Bay.
They were busy on the weekend building what they call "an immersive sensory sanctuary" for people to enjoy and hang out in just offshore.
The 10 foot hut is a winter version of an exhibit originally shown at the River and Sky Festival. this past summer in Field, near Sturgeon Falls.
It's called "Tetra."
"We're going to project some images and some video and it becomes a bright kaleidoscope inside," explained Smith as she worked on finishing the interior.
"We just wanted to make a really big piece, something psychedelic that people could crawl into and kind of overcome by but not overwhelmed," added Roberts.
Besides Smith and Roberts, friends Eric Robillard and Ben Herman are pitching in.
"Eric has done installation pieces that are also kaleidoscopes so we all took bits we were interested in and just blew it up and made it a huge amazing project."
The two-week exhibit takes place on the ice every two years. This is the eighth one. It provides people who might not normally go inside an art gallery, the opportunity to experience art in a unique outdoor environment.
