Human trafficking offences laid by North Bay police

A Manitoba man remains in custody in North Bay after he was arrested while driving with a stolen Manitoba license plate. 

On April 18 the London Police Service charged the accused with human trafficking related offences. He was later released on an undertaking and is scheduled to attend court in London, Ontario.

On June 16, two North Bay Police officers were on general patrol when the Automated License Plate Recognition device, indicated there was a stolen license plate on an approaching vehicle. 

The vehicle was stopped in the 200 block of Lakeshore Drive and two occupants were arrested. Further investigation revealed that the man was on a release order from London Police Service regarding human trafficking offences. and revealed the accused was currently involved in human trafficking offences in North Bay.

Police say the name of the accused will not be released to protect the identity of the victim.    

A 55-year-old Manitoba man is charged with:

  • Trafficking in persons
  • Advertising sexual services
  • Procuring/exercising control
  • Material benefit resulting from human trafficking
  • Material benefits from sexual services
  • Withholding documents
  • Two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking
  • Drive a motor vehicle – no license
  • Having care and control of a vehicle with cannabis readily available
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

The man was held in custody, pending an upcoming bail hearing.
