Four more arrests in property fraud scheme

The lengthy investigation has been ongoing for approximately three years and police have charged a total of five people.

OPP have made four more arrests in an effort to dismantle what they call a criminal organization. 

The lengthy investigation has been ongoing for approximately three years and police have charged a total of five people.

Police say that on February 1, 2013 members of the OPP Temiskaming Crime Unit were called to investigate a fraud surrounding the restoration and sale of a vacant commercial property on Lakeshore Road, Haileybury. The financial loss is approximately $7.5 million dollars.

One person has already been arrested and charged, he's Arash Missaghi, 45, of Richmond Hill.

Yesterday, the remaining four people were arrested and are facing several charges under the Criminal Code.      

Troy Wilson, 43, of Barrie is charged with:

  • Participation in Criminal Organization 
  • Fraud Over $5,000  (11 counts)
  • Fraud Under $5,000 
  • Obtaining by False Pretence
  • Forging Trade Mark  (two counts)

Grant Erlick, 43, of Toronto is charged with:

  • Participation in Criminal Organization 
  • Fraud Over $5,000  (nine counts)
  • Obtaining by False Pretence  (two counts)
  • Uttering Forged Document  (13 counts)
  • Forging Trade Mark 
  • Make False Statement in Writing 
  • Not Being Permitted Knowingly Make False Statement (three counts)

Masouhmeh Shaer-Valaei, 45, of Richmond Hill is charged with: 

  • Participation in Criminal Organization 
  • Fraud Over $5,000 
  • False Pretence (two counts)

Laila Alizadeh, 48, of Thornhill is charged with:

  • Participation in Criminal Organization 
  • Fraud Over $5,000
  • Obtaining by False Pretence (two counts)
  • Obtain Credit by False Pretences or Fraud 

The four will appear on January 26, 2016 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Haileybury.
