The North Bay Fire Department is a pretty busy place on Halloween as they combine with students from Widdifield Secondary School to build a Haunted House and hand out treats and terror.
"The kids look forward to it because they came here as little kids and their older brothers and sisters would volunteer for the haunted house so they're enthusiastic and they come in September and ask me when we're starting to get thing ready," explains Andrea Marcotte, the teacher at Widdifield overseeing the project.
About 25 students get involved, some are involved in art classes but Marcotte says others just want to volunteer.
"It's a great opportunity because they get 18 to 20 hours volunteer time because of all the preparation, set up and take down."
Students are given an overall theme, then the creativity of how the rooms get put together is up to them.
"They build and create with the supplies and materials that we have available. We reuse the walls every year so it gives the kids a chance to different things and this year it's a zombie theme. We told them what type of materials and supplies we had available to us, so they came up with having a graveyard, zombie fire station, zombie police station and then a zombie testing lab," said Marcotte.
The display opens at 5 p.m. and lasts until eight.
