Forest Fire situation report for Wednesday August 29th

HIGHLIGHTS:

- 0 new; 16 active fires
- 585 fires; 7778.5 hectares to date since Apr.1st


DETAILS:

There have been no new fires in the last 24 hours.

The active fires include: 14 lightning fires being observed in the far north near Fort Severn and the Manitoba border, Sault Ste Marie 71, a 11.3 hectare fire that is under control north of Elliot Lake and Parry Sound 61 a 0.8 hectare fire that is southeast of Parry Sound.

Mainly cloudy skies with showers and periods of rain are forecast for the northeast and the Upper Great Lakes east of Wawa, along with a threat of thunderstorms for the Nickel Belt. Clouds, showers, and probable thunderstorms will push southward to the Lower Great Lakes later in the day. The winds will be light to moderate. The temperatures will be slightly above normal in the south and slightly below normal in the northeast.

The Ministry of Natural Resources reminds the public that before burning please check with your municipality to be advised of their burning regulations. Never leave your fire unattended and make sure it is completely extinguished before leaving.
