Detour will be in place as section of Highway 64 closed next week

Construction continues on an important link between West Nipissing and Highway 11 north of North Bay, necessitating the closure of Highway 64 for approximately one week

Construction continues on an important link between West Nipissing and Highway 11 north of North Bay, necessitating the closure of Highway 64 for approximately one week.

Kristin Franks, spokesperson for the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario's Northeastern Region advises from July 13–20 "there will be a temporary road closure of Highway 64, south of the junction of Highway 575 at Field."

The Highway 64 improvement efforts include the replacement of a culvert approximately 3.1 kilometres south of Highway 575, necessitating the temporary closure (see map above in gallery) of Highway 64 between Sturgeon Falls and Field.

The MTO regional issues and media advisor confirms signage will be placed at Verner, Sturgeon Falls, Field and the junction of Highway11 and Highway 64. Franks adds, "The detour route will be clearly marked."

During this closure, Highway 64 will be open to local traffic only and all-terrain vehicle passage will be permitted through the site, but no through traffic will be available. Traffic will be rerouted across Highway 17 from Sturgeon Falls to Verner and Highway 575 from Verner to Field.

King's Highway 64 is maintained by the province and connects Highway 69 north of the French River with Highway 11 at Marten River, traversing Highway 17 west of Sturgeon Falls.

According to the MTO, its rehabilitation of Highway 64 between Highways 11 and 17 will also include "drainage improvements, resurfacing, and structural rehabilitation of the Marten River Bridge. It will also include upgrading lighting at the intersection of Highway 64 and Highway 11."
