Decades-old buildings coming down at ONR yard (PHOTO GALLERY)

The planned demolitions involve two end-of-life ONR buildings, the storage warehouse, which already took place over a few days, and the former bus garage

When the entire project is complete two long-standing buildings will have been demolished but a new storage warehouse is already going up in one of the footprints at the east-end North Bay ONR yard.

Ontario Northland spokesperson Renee Baker tells BayToday essential construction work is underway at Ontario Northland’s Remanufacturing and Repair Centre, located at 915 McIntyre St. East, following the demolition of a former warehouse, thought to be 100 years old.

"The storage warehouse is currently being rebuilt and our employees are looking forward to a new space with proper organization systems and a layout that is efficient," says Baker.

The planned demolitions involve two end-of-life ONR buildings, the storage warehouse, which already took place over a few days, and the former bus garage, located at 895 McIntyre St. East. The old North Bay bus garage has not been in operation since 2006 when a new facility was built on Wallace Road and is thought to have been in use as long as 70 years ago.

"The demolitions are essential due to safety concerns and to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of transportation services," advises Baker.

The former bus garage is carefully being demolished over the next couple of weeks and Baker says the land will be left vacant at this time.
