Couple sleeping in car face multiple charges including drug trafficking

A driver and passenger have been arrested and charged by OPP after they were found sleeping in a parked vehicle.

On May 29 shortly before 7 a.m., Nipissing West OPP began an investigation into a parked vehicle on Highway 17, West Nipissing.

The two occupants were sleeping inside the vehicle and were arrested after police found and seized drugs suspected to be cocaine, heroin, Fentanyl and methamphetamine. The drugs have an estimated street value of $12,000.

It was determined that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and was taken to the OPP detachment for further testing.

The driver, Natasha Clark, 38, years-of-age, from West Lethbridge, Alberta is charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs.
  • Three counts of possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking 
  • Possession of a schedule III substance for the purpose of trafficking

The passenger, Tannis McNabb, 28, also from Lethbridge, was charged with three counts of possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a Schedule II substance for the purpose of trafficking

Both were released and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on July 4 in North Bay.

Clark was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, police arrested and charged a woman with impaired driving after she drove into a swampy area off Highway 17, West Nipissing.

On May 30, shortly after 2 a.m., Nipissing West officers responded to the accident.

No injuries were reported by the driver and as a result of the investigation, the driver Katja Power, 66, from St. Charles was arrested and charged with, operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on July 4 in North Bay.
