The Coldest Night of the Year was once again a success.

Pete Gregory, chair of the Gathering Place soup kitchen in North Bay says they had 38 teams along with 224 walkers for the Saturday evening event.

The event has been traditionally considered the main fundraiser of the year for the local soup kitchen.

"The weather cooperated and we received some snow while the walkers were out but it did not dampen anyone's spirits," said Gregory.

"The mood was great and we were able to enjoy music at the venue and at the Gathering Place thanks to Steph's Total Percussion and House Party, this assisted in keeping all the participants moving."

Gregory says the event which started and finished at Ecole Secondaire Algonquin, raised more than $51,000.

"Those funds will assist us in feeding the needy people in North Bay that use our services," said Gregory.

"We are so close to meeting our goal of $60,000, and even though the event is over, it is not too late to donate."

Gregory says donations can still be made at en.cnoy.org/location/northbay

"We are so grateful to the community for their continued support and belief in The Gathering Place, we cannot do what we do without the efforts of the citizens of North Bay," he said.
