Twelve Family Medicine Residents from the Northern Ontario School of Medicine will be in North Bay over the weekend to see first hand what the city has to offer. The recruitment weekend is sponsored by RBC Royal Bank in partnership with the North Bay General Hospital and the City of North Bay .

NBGH Physician Recruiter Kristen Honeysett says this is the first time these three organizations have taken on such an event. “Recruiting and retaining physicians is more important than ever and we are taking recruitment to a whole new level. It is great to see our local physicians volunteering their time to come out and spend the weekend with the family medicine residents.”

"RBC Royal Bank is a long time supporter of health care in Ontario and we are committed to help support access to healthcare professionals in our community. We are pleased to contribute to the community of North Bay by sponsoring this weekend," says RBC Regional Vice President for North Bay & Area, Lauri Petz.

North Bay Mayor Vic Fedeli says the City is proud to host the group of medical residents. “This will give us an opportunity to showcase all that the City has to offer. It is wonderful to see the community support this, our first ever weekend familiarization tour for physicians and we look forward to on-going partnerships with the private and public sector in our recruitment and retention efforts,” Fedeli said.

First-year Family Medicine Resident Dr. Rogy Masri says the weekend is a great opportunity for the residents to see first hand what the city of North Bay has to offer in terms of lifestyle and work. “Particularly, for the Residents who may not have had a chance to come to North Bay for one of their rotations, this weekend gives us the opportunity to talk directly with North Bay physicians and interact with the community as a whole,” Dr. Masri says.

NBGH Chief of Staff Dr. Joseph Madden says the medical community is happy to welcome the Residents to discover North Bay for the weekend. “Apart from having a strong medical community, our fair city can offer so much in terms of lifestyle. I am thrilled the Residents have an opportunity to come and experience all we have to share in North Bay .”

The hospital is excited to be partnering with the City and RBC Royal Bank to encourage young medical students and residents to live and work in our community. “With the new hospital construction scheduled to begin in March, our hospital is quite attractive to new doctors and we hope this weekend will find new physicians interested in setting up a practice in North Bay in the future,” stated Mark Hurst, NBGH President and CEO.

Honeysett has organized this weekend to include a wide range of both indoor and outdoor activities for the Residents and their guests. This is a great opportunity to promote North Bay and show what this great city has to offer for both work and lifestyle.
