The Chippewa Raiders Senior Boys soccer team is making a name for itself this spring on the pitch.

The Senior Boys' Soccer team dispatched St. Mary Catholic High School of Sault Ste. Marie 2-1 to capture the NOSSA Championship Saturday afternoon on the turf at the Steve Omsichl Sports Complex.

Striker Briir Long continued his strong play and staked Chippewa to an early 1-0 lead.

Later in the game, Haru Tanabu delivered a beautiful free kick that Owen Albert tapped home, extending the lead to 2-0 with 17 minutes left to play.

St. Mary's pressed, and even scored one late to close the gap.

However, Chippewa's great goaltending by Vaughn Thomson and team defence held the perennial powerhouse team from the Sault in check.

With the win, Chippewa earned the top NOSSA seed at OFSAA and cleared a path for St. Joseph-Scollard Hall to participate along with the host team.

Meantime, St. Mary's heads to AAA OFSAA.

The Chippewa senior boys team remains undefeated on the season winning both NDA and NOSSA without dropping a game.

Next week, Chippewa gets set to host the OFSAA senior boys soccer championships.
