Chamber comments on recent issues:

Dionne Quints Museum

•A planning session occurred in regards to the Dionne Quints Museum to find the opportunities to determine the direction for education, collections preservation, and of course a renewed interest for the general public.

“We are certainly excited about the opportunities this Chamber has with the Museum, not only with upcoming tour companies, but with educating the schools on the history of our region and how the highway was paved from Toronto to North Bay with the miracle birth of the Dionne Quints….still to this day the only identical set of Quints in the world to be born and live to adulthood.” - Glenn Cundari, President

Get Trained Workers.com

• Now into the 10 month mark with the Innovations Fund program through the Ministry of Community and Social Services, the Chamber is pleased to be the proponent for such a great initiative to get those clients on Ontario Works or Ontario Disability that are prepared to venture back into the workforce.

“One of the keys to is the ability through the Northeast region of Ontario is to find the employment opportunities and match those clients that fit with the qualifications required and get them back into meaningful employment.” - Glenn Cundari, President. To-date over 310 positions have been filled in the Northeast region of Ontario and we are pleased that MCSS has extended the program to December 2008.

Upcoming Meetings/Events:

• President Cundari, along with other regional key mining personnel will be meeting with Fred Stanford, President, Vale Inco Ontario Operations on April 29th. This is an exciting visit for the region.

• President Cundari will represent the Chamber at the upcoming YES Employment Awards event on Wednesday, April 30, 2008. We congratulate all award winners.

• On Thursday, May 1, 2008, the Chamber will be pleased to attend the Volunteer Day at Memorial Gardens. We invite all volunteers of the Chamber and other community organizations to the luncheon held in their honour…we know that many of our organizations would not succeed without the great support of our volunteers.
