Emma Bertrand of Sturgeon Falls loves to fish Lake Nipissing but she says she will always remember her latest catch and release.
On Friday, she hauled in a 31 1/4-inch walleye.
Bertrand says she was out on the lake with her parents and family friends when she felt a mighty tug on her line.
"At first we were thinking it may be a pike the way it was fighting hard and pulling," Bertrand says. "Once I got it up we took a quick photo and released her back to the water."
Bertrand's fish comes in just shy of the largest-ever walleye caught in Ontario — way back in 1943 — which measured 36.5".
"That's my dad standing next to me," she says. "He wanted to be a part of this special moment that we'll never forget."
