The North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority (NBMCA) released the current snow pack information for the North Bay area today as part of their Flood Forecasting and Warning Program.

“The recent cold-snap, along with trace snowfall in the past two weeks has led to a continued trend of below normal snow conditions for this time of year,” comments Brian Tayler, General Manager of the NBMCA. “The cold weather has continued to improve ice conditions but it is important to remember the ice may not be the same thickness everywhere and to continue to use caution near areas of open, flowing water as the surrounding ice may be unpredictable.”

As of February 15, 2007 Lake Nipissing ice thickness readings in the vicinity of Deep Water Point average 45 centimetres (figure provided courtesy of the Waltonian Inn). The NBMCA will continue with its bi-weekly monitoring of the snow pack throughout the winter and spring of 2007.
