It's time to be on your best driving behaviour.

The North Bay Police Service is partnering with the OPP and MTO to conduct a traffic enforcement campaign tomorrow (Thursday). It will focus on speeding, and other Highway Traffic Act infractions, as well as unsafe vehicles.

The campaign will target a variety of offences under Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act, including speeding, distracted driving, seatbelts and unsafe vehicles, and will take place throughout the city. Extra resources will deployed during the campaign, and offenders can expect fines and loss of demerit points upon conviction, depending on the offence.

Some fines for Highway Traffic Act infractions are as follows;

  • Disobey Stop Sign - $110
  • No seat belt - $240
  • Speeding – 10 km over = $40, 20 km over = $95, 30 km over = $220
  • Careless Driving - $400
  • Fail to Stop for School Bus $490
  • Drive – Handheld Communication Device - $615
  • Operate Unsafe Vehicle – No Set Fine (court date to determine fine)

"The North Bay Police Service regularly conducts traffic enforcement initiatives within the city, and locations and violations targeted are decided based on intelligence gathered by officers and members of the public alike," says Constable Merv Shantz. "Whenever a resident of North Bay notifies the North Bay Police Service of a traffic complaint, that information can be used to identify trouble spots within the city."

Information about frequent traffic violations or other traffic complaints can be sent to the North Bay Police Service by e-mail via [email protected] or by calling the North Bay Police Service General line 705-497-5555.
