At its fourth public meeting held last night, the Pupil Accommodation Committee (ARC) presented the draft of its report which will be presented to the director of education of the Conseil scolaire catholique Franco-Nord next week.

In its report, the ARC recommends that the Conseil scolaire catholique Franco-Nord move ahead with the consolidation of its two school communities of St-Paul and Ste-Anne schools, North Bay, and that it build a new school to serve these two communities. It will be recalled that the Ministry of Education has granted funding in the amount of 8.87 million dollars to replace these two schools. The tentative date for opening of the new school would be August 2011.

Cynthia Roveda, Director of education for Conseil scolaire catholique Franco-Nord, attended all of the public meetings. She thanked the members of the ARC who have been working together for nearly a year to ensure that the consultation process meets the requirements outlined by the Ministry of Education. She also thanked all of the parents who participated in the process. “Their devotion to their children and their commitment to catholic French education contribute to the success of all of our
students”, said Ms. Roveda.

Following receipt of the ARC’S report, the director of education will prepare a report which will be presented to school board trustees at their regular board meeting in March, 2009. The decision of the board is expected to be made on June 2, 2009.

The Conseil scolaire catholique Franco-Nord has 17 French-language Catholic schools, 14 elementary and 3 secondary. Over 3,300 students attend a CSCFN school, covering the
area including the municipalities of Thorne, Mattawa, Astorville, Bonfield, North Bay and West Nipissing.
