To the editor:
I am happy city council has finally approved the new arena. Yes, it's a lot of money, but I believe it has to be done.
What I don't understand is the location. Just because we need change rooms at Omischl is no reason to put the arena there.
Bigger picture... I believe council and city planners need much better insight into these decisions and think about the city as a whole.
Let's think about downtown and waterfront revitalization for a minute...
Imagine if not only the new arena was downtown on the waterfront but if the casino was as well.
Think about the positive effect that could have on downtown and waterfront revitalization. Both facilities would be close to hotels, as well as downtown restaurants and businesses.
When hockey tournaments come to North Bay - many of the people could be staying downtown.
Instead, we chose to put the casino basically in the middle of nowhere and the new Arena at the far end of the city.
