To the editor:
One month after the joyful conclusion of the 62nd Carnaval des Compagnons, organizers are taking a moment to reflect on its success and extend heartfelt thanks to everyone who made this cherished tradition possible.
This year’s edition was a true celebration of culture, bringing the community together through vibrant festivities, cultural experiences, and the magic of winter. None of it would have been possible without the unwavering support of our sponsors, partners, and, most importantly, our dedicated volunteers. Their generosity, enthusiasm, and hard work ensured that every moment of Carnaval was filled with joy and connection.
At the heart of this year’s event was Tanya Bédard, who took on the honoured role of Bonhomme Carnaval, embodying the spirit of warmth, fun, and community pride. Her energy and dedication made her an outstanding ambassador.
A proud North Bay native, Tanya’s roots run deep in the local Francophone community. Having grown up in the French school system and within the daycare network of Les Compagnons, she graduated from École secondaire catholique Algonquin in 2002 before earning a business diploma from Canadore College.
Her professional journey has been dedicated to fostering community and economic development. After gaining experience in local startups and working with a national charitable organization, Tanya spent a decade as an economic development officer for the City of North Bay. There, she played a key role in supporting local businesses, stakeholders, and community projects—while also leading the growth of North Bay’s film industry.
In 2022, Tanya stepped into her current role as Executive Director of Tourism North Bay, where she continues to promote the beauty and vibrancy of her hometown. Together with her husband and two daughters, she remains an active member of the community, helping to shape and celebrate the cultural fabric of the region.
The Carnaval des Compagnons remains a cornerstone of the community, a moment where generations come together to embrace traditions and create lasting memories. As organizers turn their attention to next year’s edition, they promise even more exciting surprises and experiences.
To everyone who contributed — partners, sponsors, volunteers, and attendees — merci for making the 62nd Carnaval a resounding success. Your dedication and passion keep this tradition alive.
See you next year for another season of celebration and winter magic!
