An investigation is ongoing by the North Bay Police Service into a violent motor vehicle collision Tuesday morning that saw one of the two vehicles involved come to rest on its side, facing the opposite direction from which it had travelled.

On Thursday, spokesperson David Woolley confirmed the NBPS Traffic Office had not processed the full collision report and the investigation remained active.

No injuries have been confirmed.

One of the drivers involved in the collision tells BayToday it was their vehicle that was struck by the one that came to rest on its side. The driver and their passenger were driving southbound in the far right lane. The driver noticed a vehicle travelling in the far northbound lane lose control of its back end. The driver says that the vehicle then slid sideways, still on all four wheels, striking the median. The car flipped onto its passenger side and collided with their southbound vehicle.

The driver says a fire truck that happened to be driving over the overpass stopped and started to help immediately, making sure all involved were helped out of the vehicles and in good health.

Spencer Campeau witnessed the immediate aftermath of the collision just before 10 a.m. on Tuesday as he headed northbound over the bridge toward downtown. He said it was extremely cold Tuesday morning and the overpass, at least on the side of the bridge he travelled on, was somewhat icy.

As he drove past the scene, he saw the North Bay Fire and Emergency Services personnel working to free the occupant(s) from the vehicle that had flipped over via the door now facing the sky.

A fire engine blocked the way and motorists were diverted around the overpass for some time.

Campeau admits it was hard to tell exactly what had transpired but he could say the car flipped on its side was facing downtown, and the car that remained on all four wheels was facing in the West Ferris direction.
