Unmarked cigarettes and cannabis found in speeder's car

While speaking to the driver, police also detected a strong odour of cannabis.

East Algoma OPP has charged a driver after numerous traffic complaints.

On January 20, at 5:15 p.m., the OPP were notified of a burgundy car with a black roof travelling northbound on Highway 108 "at a high rate of speed, passing unsafely, and driving erratically," according to a release.

Police intercepted the car and conducted a traffic stop in Elliot Lake. While speaking to the driver, police also detected a strong odour of cannabis. As a result, approximately 30 grams of cannabis and approximately 1,100 unmarked cigarettes were seized.   

Randall Smith, 37, from Elliot Lake, is charged with:

  • Careless Driving
  • Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available
  • Possess unmarked cigarettes
