Driver of vehicle flipped in ditch charged with impaired

A single-vehicle accident results in a driver being charged with impaired operation and other offences under the Highway Traffic Act and Liquor Licence Control Act

On September 1, at 2:30 p.m., the Mattawa Ontario Provincial Police responded to a single-vehicle accident involving a vehicle on Burritts Road, Papineau Cameron Township. Upon arrival, the vehicle was flipped over in the ditch. 

There were two occupants in the vehicle and the Nipissing District Ambulance transported the passenger to hospital where they were treated for minor injuries. The driver was arrested and brought to the North Bay OPP detachment for further testing. 

Deleho STERLING, 27, from AJAX is charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Careless driving causing bodily harm
  • Possess more than one licence
  • Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available

The accused's driver's licence was suspended for 90 days and their vehicle was impounded for 14 days. They are scheduled to appear at the North Bay Ontario Court of Justice on October 8.
