A Festive Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program led to impaired driving charges for one individual in Bonfield Township.
On December 11 at 2 p.m., officers conducting a RIDE initiative at the intersection of Development Rd and South Shore Rd stopped a vehicle. Upon investigation, police determined that the driver had consumed alcohol. The individual was arrested and transported to the North Bay detachment for further testing.
John Edmonds, 57, of Bonfield Township has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on January 7, 2025. A 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension was issued, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
During the 2024 Festive RIDE program, running from November 21, 2024, to January 1, 2025, the motoring public can expect to see an increased OPP presence on our roadways.
Drivers are reminded that the Mandatory Alcohol Screening law allows officers with an approved screening device to demand a roadside breath sample from any lawfully stopped driver without reasonable suspicion of impairment.
