A North Bay man is facing assault charges that involved a baseball bat and a machete.

Police say on September 6, a man was in his backyard on Aberdeen Avenue when he began speaking to a male victim, who was in a neighbouring backyard. The first man became aggressive and threw a baseball bat at the victim causing him to seek shelter in his home. A witness told the attacker that police would be called, at which point he fled.

The next day a female victim went to the residence of the accused to visit another resident.

"Upon arrival, the accused began yelling at the victim," says a police news release. "The accused then pushed the victim onto the ground and began to kick her. During the altercation, a quantity of Canadian currency fell out of the victim’s pocket and was taken by the accused."

Police say when the victim tried to escape, she saw her attacker brandish a machete. She was chased out of the residence and subsequently blocked her from entering her residence. When the man was told that the police were coming, he fled.

He was located and arrested by police later that same day.

The accused and victims are known to each other.

The North Bay Police Service has arrested and charged a mn in two separate incidents.

Nicholas Larocque, 28, of North Bay, is charged with:

  • Two counts of assault with a weapon (baseball bat and machete)
  • Robbery with theft
  • Two counts of failing to comply with a probation order

Larocque was held in custody pending a bail hearing at the North Bay Courthouse.
