21 sex charges, including incest, laid in historical assault case

The Ontario Provincial Police have arrested and charged one person from Saskatchewan with multiple offences

On October 12, 2023, the North Bay Detachment Criminal Investigations Unit of the OPP began a joint investigation with the RCMP of British Columbia regarding historical sexual assaults that occurred between 1999 - 2003, in East Mills Township and Hardy Township in northern Ontario.

A Canada-wide warrant was issued for the arrest of the accused, and on May 20, 2024, the Rose Valley Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Saskatchewan, located and arrested the accused.

With the assistance of members from the White Butte RCMP, OPP Northwestern Emergency Response Team and the OPP North Bay Criminal Investigations Unit, the accused was returned to Ontario on May 24, 2024.

As a result of the investigation, a 72- 72-year-old person, from Lintlaw, Saskatchewan is charged with the following:

  • Five counts of sexual assault
  • Six counts of exposing to a person under 14
  • Two counts of incest
  • Five counts of invitation to sexual touching
  • Three counts of sexual interference

The accused was held for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice.

The OPP says it will not release the name of the accused to protect the identity of the victim and witnesses involved.
