‘No child should be left on the sidelines’

Since 2002, KidSport North Bay has worked to provide grants to children up to 18 years old, covering the costs of registration fees and equipment needed to participate in organized sports.

KidSport North Bay not only promotes sports in the community, but also nurtures the development of young people who might otherwise miss out on these invaluable experiences.

“No child should be left on the sidelines. Everyone should be able to experience playing an organized sport regardless of their financial situation,” said Dave Mendicino, chair of KidSport North Bay. “We believe the power of sport participation promotes the development of children’s social, mental and physical well-being,” he added.

For many kids, being part of a team is not just about the game, it’s about forming friendships and learning valuable life lessons. KidSport North Bay plays a crucial role in facilitating these experiences, empowering youth and helping them to thrive both on and off the field.

In 2012, KidSport North Bay was fortunate to partner with the North Bay Battalion of the OHL. Since then, it has been running the 50/50 draws held at each of the home games.

This partnership has allowed KidSport to expand its program with the hopes of helping even more North Bay youth.

“When we started, we were funding hockey, baseball and soccer. We now cover over 20 different sporting activities including gymnastics, horseback riding, dance, martial arts and many more. As long as there is a coaching element to the activity, we can most likely cover it,” Mendicino said.

With the organization constantly expanding, KidSport North Bay is always on the lookout for new volunteers to help provide the enriching experiences that sports offer.

Volunteers play a vital role in KidSport’s success and can help out in many ways, including selling 50/50 tickets at the North Bay Battalion home games.

Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer with KidSport North Bay can contact Shannon at 705-474-0626 ex. 2328. Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.

By breaking down financial barriers and promoting the importance of sports, KidSport shapes healthier lifestyles and nurtures the next generation of leaders and team players.
