On May 7, Ryley Shannon decided to take a shortcut on his way to work.
While walking the trail behind Candore College, Shannon came across a man that was unconscious.
Shannon attempted to speak to the man, but he was not responding. The man was having a heart attack while walking home from work.
Following the 9-1-1 call made by Shannon, he stayed with the man and supported him with words of hope and reassurance while they waited together for the ambulance to arrive.
As a result of Shannon’s selfless and quick response to the situation, the man was able to access the help he needed to survive.
“I nominated Ryley [for a BayToday Random Act of Kindness] because he is my son’s hero. He is truly a very kind and caring individual who didn't think twice about doing what was needed in the situation,” said his nominator, Holly Harling.
“By doing what he did, Ryley saved my son Charles’ life,” said Harling.
Because of Shannon’s compassionate act, BayToday recognized his heroic response with a Random Act of Kindness surprise.
“At the age of 18, not everyone would act. But Ryley dove in and we are glad he stayed to fight,” said Harling.
Thank you to our generous sponsor, Earl Wilson Electric, for making this Random Act of Kindness possible. Earl Wilson Electric purchased a $200 gift card to Home Depot to help support Ryley in securing tools to help further his career aspirations of becoming an electrician. BayToday was thrilled to match this generous donations with an additional $200 gift card to Home Depot.
“It was definitely a surprise! I was very thankful and appreciative more than anything”, said Shannon.
“I would like to thank my nominator, Holly. I appreciate everything she does and how we keep in contact. I like to know how Charlie is doing,” said Shannon.
