The West Ferris Trojans prevailed over the Algonquin Barons 12-8 in a hard-fought NDA junior football semi-final tilt at Mike O'Shea Field.
The Barons opened the scoring on a short Jake Dore run up the middle. Quarterback Dayne Meyer sprinted right for the two-point conversion.
From there, it was all Trojans. West Ferris made it 8-6 on a Carson Sagle scamper but missed the two-point try before the half.
Tim Russell scored the winning touchdown on a run from just inside the 20 midway through the fourth quarter. West Ferris again could not convert the two-pointer, making it 12-8 for the Trojans.
The young Trojans defence, led by a ferocious group of linebackers, kept the Barons off the scoreboard the rest of the way.
West Ferris Head Coach Brent Hamilton tipped his cap to the Algonquin players and coaching staff. Hamilton feels his team is peaking at the perfect time of the season.
The upstart Trojans will face the Scollard Hall Bears in the junior final on Thursday, Nov. 9 at 3:30 p.m. at Father Cundari Field.
