The West Ferris U16 Regional Rep ringette team traveled to Ottawa last weekend to compete in the annual Nepean Ravens tournament.
The event was well organized and a great time was had by players, coaches, and parents.
The U16's started off the tournament with a tough loss to a BKRA (Montreal) team on Friday evening. Despite fighting back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the contest at 2, West Ferris eventually fell 6-3.
Saturday's action was much kinder to the 63's, however, as West Ferris dominated their two matches. The U16's downed host Nepean 7-2 and West Ottawa 7-0 to earn a spot in the final. The championship featured a re-match with BKRA on Sunday.
The championship game included a lot of back and forth action as both teams created scoring chances but were unable to muster a lot of offense in what became a defensive struggle.
The two teams finished tied at one after regulation.
West Ferris won gold during the first shift of overtime with a sudden-death winner to conclude the tournament and win the gold medal. Both teams agreed that the finale was fiercely contested, yet highly sportsmanlike.
