Ontario Cycling Provincial Championships here this long weekend

North Bay will be hosting the Ontario Cycling Provincial Championships this long weekend.

A triple header cycling event starts today with the Individual Time Trial Championships followed by the Provincial Criterium Race on Saturday, and finishes with the Provincial Road Race on Sunday.

The Time Trial and Road Race will be held in East Ferris but the Provincial Criterium Race will be hosted in North Bay at the Education Complex, allowing spectators to come and watch some exciting sweeping and technical turns.

College Drive, just north of the hospital to Cedar Heights Road will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Anyone interested in attending is encouraged to park along Cedar Heights Road off Hwy 11 nor

For the Criterium race on the 5th, the Nipissing University Student Union Student Centre will be the main site for athlete registration, tourism information, and first aid.  The Student Centre will also remain open to the public including the Bay Bistro from 9 a.m to 3 p.m.

“We couldn’t be happier to be back in North Bay for this year’s 2023 Provincial Championships," says Ontario Cycling President Pamela Julian. "By merging the Road Race, the Criterium and the Individual Time Trial into one full weekend of racing, the races will showcase the versatility and skills of our cyclists, while delivering an electrifying atmosphere during the three days of competition."

Local cycling athletes, including Brett Stoppa and para cyclist Kevin McKenna will be taking to the course over the weekend in their respective events.
