A handful of North Bay Canoe Club athletes scored points for the eventual Ontario Team selection at the Ontario team selection trials which took place last weekend in Welland, Ontario.

In addition, the Club had two athletes, Nathaniel Suppa and Haley Sebesta, rank in the top 5 for Eastern Ontario and pre-qualified for the Ontario Summer Games in London from August 1 to 4.

The Club has three other athletes racing June 16 in Ottawa vying for a spot on the Eastern Ontario Summer Games team.

"We had athletes achieving personal best (PB) times and placings at this very competitive event.  Oscar Graves performed extremely well against stiff competition and gained Ontario team selection criteria points," stated Nancy Olmsted, a North Bay Canoe Club board member and former Olympian.

"Wes Clouthier also performed well in his C-1 final and will be competing June 16 for a spot on the Ontario Summer Games team."

Carson Vierich brought in some great PB performances and has made great strides from last year’s competitive season. Vierich is in the running to qualify for the Ontario Summer Games.  Caleb Allingham performed well in his C-1 races and is vying for a spot for the Ontario Summer Games.

"As a small Ontario canoe club, we are doing well considering some of the barriers and limitations that go along with being located in northern Ontario," said Olmsted.

"There are extensive travel and additional costs associated with this along with colder weather, later start on the water and ongoing windy and wavy conditions that accompany paddling on Trout Lake."
