Ecole Secondaire Algonquin Senior Girls volleyball team travelled to Mattawa on Tuesday and faced a much improved and tenacious team from Ecole Secondaire Catholique Elisabeth Bruyere in their brand new and volleyball friendly school gymnasium.
The Barons (25-15, 20-25, 25-22 and 26-24) had their hands full with the Loups.
The home team were very aggressive at the net with Mckenna Backer and Chloe Belanger smashing home several points while Candace Esch and Courtney Lepage were solid at defence. Algonquin’s captain Maxime Piche was a leader in the front row while Mila White did an amazing job setting some great balls for power hitters Tabitha Tremblay and Zaffia Laplante.
Rookie Brooke Lonsdale was solid in her volleyball debut scoring several key points while veteran Elizabeth Cochrane had some great serves.
“The Loups are not to be taken lightly," said Algonquin’s coach Geoff Laplante,
“They are very well coached and their fans are a spirited bunch, Mattawa should come out in full force and pay attention to this team – they’ve got game."
In other NDA Senior Girls Volleyball play, the West Ferris Trojans defeated the Franco-Cite Patriotes in 3 sets by the scores of 25-8, 25-23 and 25-17.
