It was a weekend of highs and lows for both the North Bay and District U18 AAA and U16 AAA Trappers.

The U16 Trappers battled back from a 2-0 first period deficit to force overtime Sunday afternoon at Memorial Gardens in their second of two weekend contests against the visiting Timmins Majors.

With Trappers down, Brant Romaniuk scored a shorthanded goal at the end of the first period and Tyler Brunet scored on a rebound during a second period power play to even things at 2-2.

With no scoring in the final frame, the Majors Travis Poan ripped a shot past Jackson Curran in the extra session for a 3-2 Timmins win.

The win spoiled a solid outing for the North Bay netminder who made numerous big stops to force overtime but helped the Trappers earn a point.

On Saturday night the Trappers built up a 2-0 lead in the opening 5 minutes on the Majors before falling 6-3.

Brant Romaniuk had two goals while Noah Kosmick had the other tally in the loss.

With the losses, the U16 Trappers fall to 1-9-0-1-1 for 4 points.

U18 Soo split

The U18 AAA Trappers were led by a two-goal effort by Cayden Kowal as the visiting Trappers dumped the Soo U18 Greyhounds 6-3.

Jacob Beemer, Nate Gravelle, Anthony Boyes and Justin Rousseau had the other goals.

Battalion prospect Mike McIvor got the win in goal for the Trappers who handed the Greyhounds their first loss in Great North U18 action this season.

However, on Saturday night it was the Greyhounds who built up a 5-1 lead before hanging on for a 6-2 win at the John Rhodes Community Centre.

Nate Gravelle had two goals in the loss. Starter Mike McIvor was lifted in the second period when the score was 5-1. Mike Purkhart only allowed one goal against in relief.

Carter Huckson and Declan Gallivan had two goals each for the first place Greyhounds.

After the weekend, the U18 Trappers sit in 5th spot (8-3) only four points back of the league leading Hounds (10-1).
