The North Bay Midget Stingers came home with silver at the SOBA Ontario Midget Baseball Championships which took place this weekend in Vaughan.
The Stingers, fresh off a second place finish in the Senior Men’s Baseball loop, won their first three contests with the highlight of upending the 34-1 Waterloo squad in the opening game by a score of 9-4.
In the Stingers second game, they finished off Clarington 7-2 and then secured a spot in the semi-finals with a win over East York.
The Stingers had their first setback Saturday night when they lost 6-4 to the defending champions from Brampton.
That set up a semi-final against Orangeville, and the locals got a 4-3 win behind the solid pitching of Ethan Allair and Jesse Kirkby. Connor Winrow knocked on the game winning RBI.
That set up a rematch with Brampton in the SOBA Finals and once again the Brampton squad came out on top with an 8-1 final win.
Kyle Backer was the Co-Tournament MVP and Kyle Kennedy was selected as the Defensive Player of the Tournament.
