The North Bay U16 AAA Trappers finished off the 2024 portion of the 24-25 season on a positive note and broke a six-game winless streak in the process.
The Trappers, who played three games in three days to go into the Christmas break, doubled up the Sudbury U16 AAA Wolves 4-2 at Memorial Gardens on Sunday afternoon.
Grady Dale netted a pair of first period goals to pace the Trappers offence. Janssen Franzen supplied the only Trappers goal in the middle frame to make it 3-1 Trappers after two periods.
The Wolves Sam Piette cut the lead to 3-2 but Kobe Gravelle, who had a solid game on the Trappers blueline, scored a late goal on a shot through traffic that beat Wolves starter Owen Lamothe and sealed the 4-2 win.
Philippe Lafontaine and Owen Smith both supplied two assists in the win.
Bruce Laronde was solid between the pipes for the U16s in the win as they improve to 6-11-0-1 on the season and 6th in the nine-team Great North U18 League.
The win was a good bounce back after dropping a pair of home contests against the Timmins Majors. On Friday, the Trappers fell 5-2 at Memorial Gardens and then on Saturday they battled back from a 6-2 deficit to tie the Majors late in the third period only to see Jordan McLeod spoil the comeback with the Majors game winner with less than 90 seconds left in the third period in a 7-6 Majors win.
Cedar Montreuil had 2 goals and 2 assists in Saturday's 7-6 loss while Ty Dubreuil contributed 2 goals and 1 assist.
