NORTH YORK, ON - The North Bay Midget B Ice Boltz took home Gold this past weekend in the North York Storm Tournament.
The girls started the tournament strong defeating two North York area Teams by scores of 7-0 and 7-1 on Friday.
The games were highlighted with some great passing, hard skating, strong defense and steller goaltending.
The third game the Ice Boltz faced the Provincial qualifying North York Storm and the game was a tight checking and physical game.
After a scoreless first period the Ice Boltz scored early in the second and continued with their strong defensive play and with great goaltending the rest of the way they took the game by a 1-0 score and a spot in semi final.
The semi final was rematch with North York team from Friday and girls came out of the gate hard and fast.
North York tried to use their size to slow down the Boltz but with some great passing the Boltz scored in first period to take an early lead.
The second period was much of the same and on the power play the Boltz connected again to up the lead to 2-0.
The Third period was a penalty filled affair but the Boltz made North York pay and scored two more times to put game out of reach by a 4-0 score and spot in Gold medal game.
In the Gold medal game the Ice Boltz would face the Mitchell Meteors.
Both teams came out hard from the puck drop and tried to take an early lead but the two goaltenders made great saves to keep the game tied for first two periods.
The Ice Boltz would score on a nice tic tac toe passing play to take the lead mid way through the third period and put the Meteors on the ropes.
The Meteors kept coming hard until the end and some great saves and strong defensive play was needed but the Ice Boltz secured the win with an empty netter.
The Ice Boltz Golden success came through great team play all weekend and great goaltending.
