Local youth bowler Jake McKenny captured a gold medal at the youth bowling provincials on Sunday, March 8, 2020 and will be heading off to the Nationals in Calgary, Alberta.
Seventeen youth bowlers from Partners Bowling competed in the third step of the YBC National Championships (4 Steps to Stardom) 5-Pin bowling tournament at the Northern Ontario Provincials on March 8, 2020 in the Greater Sudbury area. The bowlers competed in nine different categories for an opportunity to attend the Canadian national championship in youth bowling.
Jake McKenny was competing in the Senior Boys Singles category. He started off strong and held on the lead throughout all games, finishing with a 255.8 tournament average.
Other bowlers just fell short of capturing a medal. Kyrsten Tremblay competing in the Senior Girls Singles category led for most of the day but fell short in the final game resulting in a 4th place finish. The Bantam Girls first team consisting of Michelle Baker, Abby Hurtubise and Coach Ginette MacLean finished 2 points out of the bronze spot. The Bantam Boys team consisting of Elijah Robillard, Alex Leblond and Coach Michael MacLean competed in one of the closest categories in the tournament. They missed gold by 29 points, the silver spot by 2 points and tied for 3rd place. An extra game roll-off occurred but a heartbreaking lost resulted in a 4th place finish for the team.
Rounding out top 5 finishes at the Provincials included Heather Parry, Joshua Holmes, Connor Guertin and Coach Remi Levasseur with a 5th place finish in the Combo Team category.
Congratulations to other bowlers from the Gateway zone including bronze medalist Logan Clark from Parry Sound in the Junior Boys Singles category, and bronze medalists Zachary Eckensviller, Tony Crick and Coach Victor Legault from Haileybury in the Senior Boys team category.
Jake will be competing at the YBC Nationals Championship in Calgary, Alberta on May 3-5, 2020.
