The North Bay U18 AAA Trappers continue to sit on top spot in the Great North U18 AAA League early this season.
The Trappers, who sport a 9-1 record are coming off three straight wins last week including a 5-4 win over the Sudbury U16 AAA Wolves at Memorial Gardens on Halloween night.
Ben Brunton led the way with a pair of goals, while singles went to Owen Head, Noah Kozmick and Tyler Brunet.
The U18s then hit the road north for a pair of games against the last place Kapuskasing Flyers.
Josh Dale, the new U18 AAA Trappers head coach did not want his team to take the Flyers for granted in the worst versus first matchups.
"The message to the players and mentality we were aiming for was that records and previous games don’t matter," explained Dale.
"We are focusing on the present and each game as they arrive no matter who they are and what their opponent's record is. We need to play our game for 60 minutes and not worry about other teams."
In the Saturday contest, Noah Kozmick led the way with a hat trick in a 9-4 win. Brunton had a pair while singles went to Michael Dech, Cameron Lockhart, and Jackson Culin.
On Sunday, the Trapper offence continued to roll in an 8-3 win to complete the two-game sweep over the Flyers.
Cameron Lockhart broke out with an impressive four-goal performance, while Brunton added two more goals as well. Tyler Brunet and Scott Szcygiel rounded out the scoring.
Despite the victories, Dale was concerned about team discipline on the high scoring victories over the weekend.
We played two great games, but the boys know that I’m not satisfied as we took a few too many penalties and got distracted," he said.
"We have an incredible team and coaching staff and are prepared to do great things this season."
