Mark your calendars if you are up to doing something different...watching curling is free in North Bay.

On the weekend of November 15-17 a 32 team bonspiel, affectionately known as the Assante 101 Classic, takes place at the Granite Club, 2624 Trout Lake Rd.

"While many of the Club’s curlers will be competing, General Manager Laura Johnston attributes the fast ice conditions and excellent camaraderie to increased interest from out-of-town teams. The GM says this bonspiel is drawing a lot of fine teams from Sudbury, Huntsville Collingwood, and further south as well as the nation’s Capital region," says a news release.

"If you have never walked into the North Bay Granite Club, this is your invitation. This bonspiel is a senior open event, meaning any curler 50 years of age or older can participate. This event is open to women's, men's, and mixed teams. In its 17th year as the major sponsor is Assante Wealth Management.

Last fall the event’s overall winner was Team Bruce Munro from Sudbury.
