This past weekend the North Bay & District Girls Hockey Association celebrated their 25th Anniversary during their annual tournament. This year's tournament was sponsored by the Andre Purcell Team.
The tournament kicked off on Thursday night for local teams with some teams playing games while others local teams took part in a skills competition run by the Nipissing Lakers Women's Hockey Team.
On Friday night, the NBDGHA celebrated its joint partnership with the Nipissing Lakers with a jersey presentation prior to puck drop.
The Lakers game also drew a majority of tournament participants take in OUA action to help pack the rink.
As the tournament progressed two Junior Lakers teams advanced to the championship game, the U15B and U15BB teams.
The U15BB team has a record of 2-2-0 through round robin play and defeated the Georgina Golden Hawks 3-1 in the semi-finals to advance to the championship game. The U15BB Jr.Lakers fell 1-0 to Nepean to bring home a silver medal.
The U15B team had a record of 1-2-1 through round robin play just sneaking into the medal round taking the 4th place spot. In the semi-finals they upset the number 1 seeded Stittsville Rockets with a 1-0 win. In the championship regulation time did prove to be enough as the Junior Lakers and Nepean Wildcats were tied at 2 a piece. The game needed a shootout where the Junior Lakers prevailed to bring home the U15B division title on home ice!
In out-of-town news, the U13A Junior Lakers brought a silver medal back to North Bay from the Waterloo Fall Challenge Cup.
