If the City refuses to issue a building permit for the Hooters property, the value of the property will fall - dramatically.
Only then should the City purchase the property!

Make the removal of Yankee whiskey and California wine permanent.
WHile we are at it, perhaps we should take Budweiser & Coors beer off shelves too!

Wendy, you may not consider yourself a political commentator, but you have done a very good job of it!

Trump's support of Putin & his aggression is disgusting.
Will he support China's possible invasion of Taiwan next?

Dave,
This is nonsense!
The tariffs will come out of American pockets.
When they realise this, perhaps MAGA supporters will wake up!
Unfortunately, the lost business will impact Canadians too - nobody wins!

I too grew up in an immigrant (refugee) family.
We arrived in Canada in June 1944 - WW II was still raging!
I remember my father leaving for work around 7:00am and not returning until 6:00pm
My parents were only able to feed me by depriving themselves.
My wife grew up in a single parent household . . .
I have no problem with a "socialistic system", and funding it would be easy.
Why are we, a prosperous elderly couple, allowed to put thousands of dollars into tax-free savings accounts, effectively hiding this accumulated wealth from taxation?
Most people simply cannot afford to take advantage of this.
We compensate by donating generously to various charities, concentrating on those operating in an around Barrie.
What are you doing to help out?

2025 Provincial Election News |

I am visiting friends in Australia.
Voting has been compulsory here for decades.
Not only that, but "first past the post" was replaced by grouping ridings together into larger units with 7 representatives.
Winners are selected from the parliamentary candidates according to the proportion of votes cast for each party.
While this may not turn out to be exactly proportional representation, it is a close approximation.

It is high time to ditch "first past the post".

Is any Premier or Prime Minister ready to make that their signature achievement???

The first step to alleviating this problem is for school busses to wear proper winter tires.
The second step would be for the province to require all vehicles to wear winter tires during the winter months.
That wouldn't fix all of the issues outlined above, but it would be a good start!
Remember, these orange vehicles carry our most precious cargo!
Time to pass this legislation Mr Ford!

I have never "garbaged" my organics.
We have a pair of rotating drums to compost our kitchen scraps and alternate their use.

It is worth noting that Barrie's organics are shipped to Arthur, about 110km away.
They are composted in the open there, and there is clearly little market for the compost.

I simply refuse to waste my money trucking the material that distance.
Over the years these piles of composting material have become the "Arthur Alps"!
It is high time the composting was done locally, in an anaerobic digester where the methane formed could be captured and burned for energy.
